Partners in Recovery receives the 1000th referral!!
07 Jul 2017
The South Eastern Melbourne Partners in Recovery (SEMPIR) recently received its 1000th referral. This is a fantastic milestone for a program that provides coordinated support for people with a severe and persistent mental illness. Established in February 2014, PIR has been providing assistance to some of our most vulnerable individuals residing in the city of Greater Dandenong, Casey and Shire of Cardinia. PIR is a voluntary program which aims to assist a client’s access to the right services and supports, to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Due to severe mental health, individuals often find it difficult to access, navigate and coordinate services and supports they may need.
Referrals from services such as community mental health, drug and alcohol, housing, refugee services and corrections are some of the referrals received at PIR. PIR often work alongside multiple services and provide coordinated care and support to ensure the needs of a PIR recipient are met. This empowers individuals to make their own choices and create the most of opportunities to improve health and wellbeing.
Since its inception PIR has successfully transitioned people into employment/volunteering, stable housing; and assisted them to access specialist health care, social inclusion activities in the community, and linked in with emergency food relief and financial counselling. We have been able to create a healthier, supportive and more meaningful life for many PIR recipients and their families. We strive to continue assisting people with a severe and persistent mental illness, who have the highest levels of disability and complexity of need; to have a better quality of life.
