Older Person Mental Health First Aid Course

Mental health first aid for the older person is aimed at the person 65 years + who is experiencing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Like physical first aid, mental health first aid is given until the older person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves.

Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training courses authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors.

Course content: Course participants will learn about:

  • Signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems (Depression, Anxiety problems, Confusion and Dementia, Psychosis)
  • How to provide initial help
  • What sort of help has been shown by research to be effective
  • How to provide first aid in a crisis situation (suicidal thoughts, self-injury, panic attacks, severe effects of drug or alcohol use, severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviours

Course format: This 12-hour course is run as a 2-day course OR as 4 separate training modules.

Cost: Course cost and inclusions $275 per person, however the course may be free if the event is funded through an organisation. Please contact us to check. All courses include: a copy of the Older Person MHFA Manual, a Certificate of Completion, light lunch, morning/afternoon tea.
